History

People’s Law Center is a 501 ©(3) non profit legal organization incorporated in 1996. It came into existence in response to a round of funding cuts and restrictions enacted by the Legal Services Corporation. The two original staff members, Russ LaVigne Jr. and Vivian Marie ,(as well as most subsequent full time staff) were formerly employed by Montana Legal Services Association. PLC was supported, in part, for the first 4 years, by the Montana Law Foundation ie Montana Justice Foundation by grants funded by IOLTA monies until it could be self supporting. We also received grants from Lewis and Clark County to help pay for medical records in 2002-2004. We are currently completely self supported via our attorney’s fees.

Until the beginning of 2004, PLC consisted of two offices with one full time attorney and a part time support staff person in each office. In January of 2004 a third office was established. In September of 2006 a fourth office was established. Our offices are currently located in Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls and Helena. We have 4 attorney employees and 4 support staff employees.
